Candice Faktor

Vice President, Strategy and New Ventures
As Torstar Digital’s Vice President, Strategy and New Ventures, Candice is responsible for creating the next generation of Torstar Digital’s businesses and developing the company’s overarching growth strategy.
Candice has been at Torstar Digital since the beginning and has been instrumental in its growth. She has played a key role in the foundation of several start-up ventures, partnerships and acquisitions including Torstar Digital (now has over 250 employees and 8 businesses),Olive Media (Canada’s largest premium ad network), Travel Alerts (leading Canadian travel deals newsletter), Wagjag and Tuango (Canadian leaders in the group buying industry).
Some of Candice’s most recent new ventures include the launch of Shopcatch (Location based mobile shopping business), and Jaunt (travel group buying site).Candice is actively pursuing acquisitions and strategic investments in the high growth emerging areas of social commerce, mobile, and performance advertising.
Before joining Torstar Digital, Candice spent four years with the Monitor Group, a top tier strategy consulting firm.

Gavin McGarry – Event Host

Before founding Jumpwire Media in 2009 Gavin worked for online video start up Joost and was the Head of Cross Platform Business Development at global television production company Endemol.
Gavin has been working in media space for over 20 years. His past experience includes positions at major television networks as well as owning and operating a television production company and a boutique advertising agency. His company created some of the first crossmedia TV content and worked with major networks including NBC, Discovery, CTV, and Global Television. The full service ad agency serviced two national clients and explored integrating brands into television and online properties. In 2004 he moved from his native Canada to the UK to better understand the rapidly emerging mobile phone space. Through his position at Endemol he worked closely with the UK’s largest mobile operator O2 and helped develop leading edge content for multiple platform release. In 2007 he moved into the web video arena based out of the Joost’s New York office. He has spent time in Japan, Africa, Europe and China exploring and understanding the global digital media content market place. He is invited to speak at media industry conferences on a regular basis including: MIPCOM, International Institute of Communications, Harvard Business Club of New York, Ryerson University, NAPTE, Xmedia Lab, etc.

Dr. Eric McLuhan
An internationally-known lecturer on communication and media, Dr. McLuhan has over 30 years’ teaching experience in subjects ranging from reading and literature to media, culture, communication theory, and Egyptology. He has taught at many colleges and universities in
both Canada and abroad. He worked closely with Marshall McLuhan for fifteen years and has also done extensive communication research. He has published many books and articles on media, perception, literature and the arts. Most recently, The Human Equation (BPS Books, 2011), Media and Formal Cause (NeoPoeisis Press, 2011), and Theories of Communication (Peter Lang, 2011).

James Milward

Executive Producer and Founder – The Secret Location
James Milward has a degree in Economics and a postgraduate degree in Interactive Art and Entertainment from the New Media Lab at the Canadian Film Centre. James has worked extensively in TV commercial production and documentary film, prior to defecting to the dark arts of interactive, thirsting for a bigger creative canvas.
James founded interactive boutique Secret Location in 2007. Encompassing online, mobile, animation and transmedia storytelling, Secret Location has subsequently built numerous award-winning large-scale digital entertainment and brand projects.
Currently, Secret Location has grown to a team of 25 and is currently working numerous campaigns for large brands and TV shows in Canada and the US. Over the last year, James and Secret Location have also created and built several original concepts into successful IP and venture funded businesses including Herd.fm and FanVewr, both officially launching in late 2011.
James has become a regular speaker at international conferences around the world including: SXSW Interactive, Flash in the Can, Next Media, The Banff World Television Festival, Reel Screen, the Boards Summit, Cross Media TO and Mesh Marketing.
James also serves on the digital advisory board of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.

Bryan Segal
Vice President

Presently, working at comScore Inc. as a Vice President, Bryan has a pulse on electronic media, the future of the Internet and its full spectrum. His love of statistics and Sociology at McGill University allow Bryan a broad knowledge base. His work in theatre as well as teaching in South Korea added to his rich global views and helped him to develop a creative mindset. Bryan’s creativity, energy, and a pervasive work ethic have helped him to become enriched and knowledgeable in his industry. Bryan works with prestigious clients such as Bell Canada, Astral Media, Yellow Pages Group, Rogers Communications, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Google Canada, Quebecor, The Weather Network, as well as many major Canadian agencies. In addition, Bryan is a dedicated member of the Internet Advertising Bureau Board of Directors, where he works actively to enhance digital media in Canada.

Jordan Van Schyndel
Co-Founder – Present Feedback
Jordan is an entrepreneur with a technical background, eye for opportunity, and first class spelling skills. He has been technical lead on a number of successful and innovative products, from mobile applications to real time billing systems.
As a co-founder of Present Feedback, he will be focusing his mad technical skills and boyish charm toward helping presenters engage with their audiences beyond what they could normally do themselves.
In his spare time, Jordan enjoys his musical instruments and a good restaurant patio.
